These paintings are part of a series of expressionist portraits celebrating restaurant servers—they depict fictional characters inspired by memory, observation, and lived experience. My goal is to highlight the individuals who are essential to the city’s vibrant food culture and make viewers reflect on who are these people and their importance.
I am very interested in portraying the often-overlooked choreography of service work—gestures repeated daily, the posture of performance, the fleeting interactions that create a sense of welcome and rhythm. In a city where the food scene is not just central to culture but also a symbol of identity, aspiration, and connection, these figures represent care, labor, and community.
Using layered paint, loose gesture, and irregular brushstrokes, I create theatrical, dreamlike compositions that merge the emotional and the everyday. My expressive visual language is inspired by New York's fast pace and it reflects the layered nature of urban life.
